Earth Now – Visualizes recent global climate data

[App] Earth Now

Earth NowNASA’s Earth Now is an application that visualizes recent global climate data from Earth Science satellites, including surface air temperature, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone, and water vapor as well as gravity and sea level variations.

Data sets are visually described using “false color” maps. Color-coded legends are provided to indicate relative strength or weakness of an environmental condition.

The resulting 3D model of the Earth may be rotated by a single finger stroke, and may also be zoomed in or out by pinching 2 fingers. It was developed by the Earth Science Communications and Visualization Technology Applications and Development Teams at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, with support from NASA Headquarters.

Earth Now user reviews :

A fabulous app that with 2 fixes will be perfect! It has a coloration error in the color scale on the Air Temp. screen that needs to be fixed to remove confusion & the color-&-units scale is completely missing from the Gravity Variation page so users have no clue what the various colors on the globe are representing numerically or otherwise! This is science/science education & not everyone “gets” this so if the Devs are gonna do it they have to do it right, & not mostly right but totally right!

It suddenly stopped working… I reinstalled it but didn’t help… I waited for a month to see if they have updated it or fixed the issues but unfortunately it’s not. Am sad and don’t know when the lab will focus on this app to fix the bugs… Will install it when they do.

Absolutely stunning! AMAZING! I was instantly learning and informed, the updated info loaded quickly, the data was vast… Ufff… I’m so impressed! I did feel as if the whole outlook was somewhat dated in its look… Visual overhaul on the horizon? Either way! 5 STARS!

Interesting app. Though I wished it had a widget option that I could place on my screen much like a weather app/widget so I can see the data all the time without loading the app.

Very janky zooming, no proper menus and no metric units makes this app feel like an amateurish weekend project and not something from JPL. earth . nullschool . net in a browser works much better and gives even more data.

The ‘EXIT APP’ button is missing when viewing on android phones. Is there any way to incorporate a speed control when playing the sets.

Very interesting app that easily allows you to browse the globe. Works well on both top end and low end devices.

It’s amazing what NASA can do on a penny budget! The rt data and satellite feeds are incredible for up to date stats to use as a visual aid in discussing climate change! Thank you NASA JPL!

Looks great and seems to work well, fascinated, puts things in perspective if you know how to analyse the data/. Visuals

If you can ever get lucky and find what your looking for it shows a perfectly clear picture. But it’s almost impossible to figure out how it works. If it was simple it would get 5 stars easy. But it’s not. So I just give it 1 star.

Excellent, but I didn’t figure out how to exit this app. Had to reboot phone. Unistalled it due to this problem. I will check back in a week or two to see if there is a reply on how to exit this app.

Just No i installed it but its only Showing (Where are they now) And Showing the image of Earth there are didnt have any kind of Function And information As i can See in Play store Very Very Worst Application wasting Time Dont Download This Application Fake Application

Had really high hopes for something from JPL. Was terribly alarmed when I opened it and saw a LARGE TYPHOON and it’s approaching the Philippines! I checked my weather app and to my relief, EARTH-NOW was late.

I wish this had the aerosol map even if that is just a siulation using real data. Other than that, no complaints.

What’s going on with this app. Worked fine in the past. Now, it doesn’t have buttons like before. Reinstall done, no go. Anyone else having this issue?

Awesome look at the state of the world observed by NASA satellites. Works fine on my Android phone.

There is no option for sharing this app to another people. Maybe there is, but i did not find. Very usefull app.

To be able to visualise the truth and reality of science first hand, it’s extremely powerful.

Great app to learn the recent variations in earth’s geology but the app should have a close button.
