WHERE DID LINGVIST COME FROM?

Our founder, Mait, started Lingvist while working as a nuclear physicist at CERN in Switzerland. He’d lived in the French-speaking part of the country for years and wanted to expand his social life, but he always found conventional methods a little unengaging and too slow for his liking. He needed a better way to learn French – so, he created a prototype, began learning French, took a high-school language exam, and passed with a strong grade.

Today’s Lingvist is the result of that original idea and its basic principles – and we’ve come a long way since then. Founded in Estonia, we now have over 1 million users and a super-talented and friendly team across offices in Tallinn, London, Berlin, and Tokyo.

We believe anyone can learn a language in a fast and effective way.

Being “part German,” and always fascinated by the “sound” of German language, I wanted to learn a little. I appreciate how the app throws you into speaking and writing the language, urging the learner to recall “sounds” one has heard once before, even as its phrases employ sounds + words one has never seen. The app tricks you into that equivocal area where there exist English cognates; there you are compelled to use the little you know as well as you can. Then it corrects your plausible mistake.

I think this app is very helpfull becuase it teaches you important words and gives helpfull feedback and infornation about what you learned. But one problem that I have is that theres not a lot of languages, I would really like it if you guys could make a jappanesse one. Thank you so much for reading this. I hope theese updates come out soon don’t work to hard though!☺️

Thank you for your review! I’ve added your vote for Japanese in our product feedback report. After we perfect our new feature Course Wizard, I believe we’ll soon have bandwidth to add some new language pairs. :)

If you would add some pictures to the flashcards, it would be amazing! Instead of using all the time only words, some pictures would be great as well. It is my favorite language app anyway! Thank you

It’s the best app I have ever used but it is not suitable with my device (Samsung tab s2) sentences come bigger than to suit the screen .
