The NYTimes app for Android is built responsively and is formatted from 4″ phones to 12″+ tablets. The app works on all devices running Android OS (4.4+).
The New York Times offers the following subscription options:
Basic Digital Access, which includes unlimited article access. Cancel anytime.
All Digital Access: Basic + access to The New York Times Crossword and NYT Cooking. You also receive one bonus subscription to give to anyone you’d like. Cancel anytime.
The NYTimes app requires certain permissions to provide you with the best possible reading experience. Here’s a little bit about what each one does:
In-app purchases: This allows you to make purchases within the app.
Location: In exchange for the free content provided through the NYTimes app, we compile demographic information about our readers in accordance with our Privacy Policy. This information is no more specific than the state in which you are located.
Photos/Media/Files: This permission allows the app to cache images locally, reducing load times for pages you revisit.
Wi-Fi connection information: This item gives the app permission to use available Wi-Fi networks rather than your mobile network. In the absence of trusted Wi-Fi networks or if Wi-Fi is disabled, the app will make use of your cellular network (if available). Normal bandwidth and usage charges apply as detailed in your service agreement with your wireless carrier.

App is generally excellent, though a recent update removed the ability to swipe left/right to switch sections (similar to swiping while in an article). Really, really miss this feature and not sure why it vanished – please bring it back!
The newest widget is great! It looks beautiful and I’m hoping it doesn’t have the bugs of the old widget :)
Update: After uninstalling and reinstalling the Feb 21 update it still crashes and I am not allowed to read articles. Update: I tried again after the Jan 16 update but it still crashes. Crashes repeatedly when entering my userid on Samsung Galaxy Tab (Gingerbread). I have cancelled my NYTimes digital subscription as a result.
It’s about time! One feature that the NYT widget has been missing (that almost all other new widgets have) is the capability for a resizable scrolling widget! Love it! Changing my vote from a ‘1’ to a ‘5’. Thanks, NYT!
