TeslaUnread provides unread count badges for Nova Launcher Prime and WidgetLocker. It will not work with other desktops or lockscreens.
Unread counts are natively supported for the most popular chat and email apps, such as Hangouts, Whatsapp and all the apps shown in the screenshot.
Additionally on Android 4.3+ TeslaUnread can watch the notification bar to extract unread counts from virtually any app.
Enable TeslaUnread in Nova Launcher or WidgetLocker Settings > Unread Counts, here you may also customize the style of the badge, such as the size and colors.

It’s ok… UPDATED Works but doesn’t have many apps that I can apply the badge to… Just a handful… Otherwise ok. Since December 2015 the setting to for this app has been turning off automatically…. This is no occurring every other day… Not happy.
Keeps turning itself off quite frequently, up to multiple times a day. This needs to be fixed. Also have a constant counter Facebook app which won’t go away no matter what I do.
Pretty Good! I rely on this quite a bit and it shocks me that the stock Android launcher doesn’t feature something like this automatically. Definitely a must if you’re using Nova Launcher. One caveat: for some reason, certain apps display and unread count when there’s nothing to be read, and this can be frustrating.
