Install this app if you want to use features from the latest Android messaging app without having to wait for a full phone software update.

Usage

8sms has two modes: default and Stand-alone mode.

In default mode, please do not disable or remove the messaging app that came with your device as that is still required to receive sms and mms messages. Instead, Turn off notifications for the messaging app that came with your device. Then you won’t get two sets of notifications.

In Stand-alone mode, please disable or remove the messaging app that came with your device otherwise every new message will be stored twice.

Permissions

This app requires a wide range of permissions because it is a port of a system app. System apps use a lot of permissions. Full network access is required in order to send (or download) mms using your phone’s cellular data (mms) connection.

Just one problem Everything is great except one thing. I enabled the emojis, which is the main reason I installed this, but don’t see a button or anything to actually use them. Not sure if my phone’s default keyboard is getting in the way or what but I’d like some help please and thank you

Great! Brilliant app. One minor annoyance is the recently used emoji tab. If you use that emoji 3 times, it is listed 3 times in the tab.

Brilliant! Two things: Still testing, but MMS Auto-Retrieve doesn’t seem to be working for me (yet?). Also, Hangouts allows you to change notification settings per contact which is handy. Also, I like the blue in the dark theme, but not the grey — Can we make it (pure) black and blue instead? :) Other than that, thank you for saving us from Hangouts!
