IoPT – Identify services on a network and perform the security audit

[App] IoPT – Network Security Scanner

IoPT is abbreviated from “Internet of Protected Things”. The aim of IoPT is to check SoHo(small office/home office) network security state by searching for a vulnerable network connected device(s). By using IoPT, you will get know, what security issue(s) do you have and how to fix it.

Key features:

1. Security audit – Identify services on a network and perform the security audit
2. Host discovery – Identify hosts on a network
3. Port scanning – Enumerate the open TCP ports on a target host
4. HiBP integration – Ensure your personal data has not been compromised by data breaches
5. Shodan integration – Ensure you know all the “things” on a network directly connected to the Internet
6. RTSP audit – Perform a security audit for an RTSP source(e.g. CCTV installation). Check your network for unauthorized CCTV installations.

IoPT user reviews :

Pretty good, has a really nice and simple UI. It’s really useful in just getting an understanding of what a network would have. This app would be useful with on the ground penetration testing without bringing in other hardware and to just have running in the background while scouting out. I do believe some things such as port scanning are pretty bland and could be improved upon, such as being able to scan common ports instead of 1-5000 or other specific ports.

It managed too see the ‘phone that the app’s running on, but nothing else on the network (yes, I’m connected to my network via WiFi). Tools are cute. Overall something possibly interesting for non-IT people to reassure themselves with, but nothing of value for someone serious about probing their network for vulnerabilities.

  • Thanks for your feedback. IoPT will most likely never reach something like OpenVAS, due to Android’s strict limitations at least. But we are constantly updating the list of vulnerability tests. And for most users, this may be enough to get started securing the network.
Update fixed issues! Great app! Perfect for security minded people and nerds like me.

  • Hi, have you tried the latest update? It seems to fix the issue for many of our users. If it doesn’t work for you, could you contact us at iopt.team[at]gmail.com so that we can work together to figure it out?
Nifty little tool. Needs the ability to scan external IPs.

  • Thanks for your feedback! We respect your advice, but it’s like a double-edged sword, since the application can be used as a malicious tool.
Compared to the alternatives on this platform, this is the only worth-while app that does non-web-focused vulnerability scans. Although it should be said beforehand that you can’t see the vulnerability results without paying. (subscription based). Overall, It’s really easy to use, and quite convenient for a quick-and-noisy security scan.

  • Thanks for your kind feedback. As a side note: you don’t need a subscription to see router(i.e. the default gateway) vulnerabilities.
