Blackr – Keeps app running and screen essentially off

[App] Blackr – OLED Screen Off

Blackr  Blackr simulates a locked screen like state over any app, and does not stop them from running. Like watching a video online or recording a video for a long time, so many use cases.

Simple and smart design makes it very easy and convenient to use. It works best with OLED, AMOLED and similar screens that switch off any pixel displaying true black.

FEATURES:

Keeps app running and screen essentially off.
Run app using notification or floating icon.
Supports quick tiles in notification bar.
Highly customisable design.
Date, time, and battery percentage can be seen.
Motion clock to prevent burn in.
Clock can also be disabled for pure black.
Optionally disable device from sleeping.
Very small app size and extremely efficient app.

PREMIUM FEATURES:

RGB CLOCK which fades through different hues. You have to see it to believe it’s awesomeness.

CENTER CLOCK option which ensures the clock is moving only along the vertical axis for the perfect symmetry yet no burn in.

Best way to use the app is, add a blackr button in the quick tile settings in device status bar. It works seamlessly any time!

Please note – Since Android 8.0 (Oreo) or higher, navigation and status bar can only be partially hidden due to OS security reasons. But if an app is full-screen it will work just fine.

Runs great on devices like Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, Note, OnePlus and more.

It works by showing a black overlay on top of the screen and on modern AMOLED displays this turns off all pixels, effectively turning the screen off.

Also can be used to reduce any burn in on screens, as we change the lit pixels every minute, it acts as a good screen reset in some cases (as reported by users).

This is not a lock-screen app, It is an overlay and your phone is not sleeping while this is on. So power reduction is mostly from less or no screen usage, and helpful to prevent screen burn in.

This app can be used in many scenarios like recording long videos, watching YouTube screen off, streaming videos for playing music, etc.

Exactly what I was looking for in a free “screen locked YouTube app”. Will sometimes turn screen on when in my pocket, but I have found that the Long Press option works best if your phone will be rubbing against fabric or other material.

Exactly what I was looking for to use with a DIY home security app. Works perfectly as long as needed. No crashes after a couple weeks of use.

This works! I do have a request, even if it’s pro. A timer that will activate the app after you tap to turn on screen? I’d like to tap and then don’t have to tap again to activate it. Just set like after 30 secs it turns off the screen.

Greetings ~ ~ I installed this app as I found it minimalistic, interesting and after a few minutes I decided to add the PRO features. ~ so far so good and I hope that whenever android updates to different clock faces in the (A-12) update coming soon that this app will be updated accordingly. ~ I noticed how the battery consumption is very minimal! (kudos!!) ~ I do like the RBG option and the movement of the clock face across the screen as it looks great while its activated. ~ This is where I segue into a small issue, the app is pretty straightforward and easy to use – (however personally) – I do wish it would – “autostart” – as it would make it easier (instead of) having to toggle that option to always activate it. ~ I would also like to see implemented, an option, to add a personal message on the Blackr screen. (just a personal touch that I like) ~ Overall, I’m impressed with the app and like the simplicity, minimalistic style, ease of use and hope that the options/ features mentioned above will be considered in a future update. ~ GOOD JOB!! ~ RECOMMENDED!

I must admit, this app being updated to reenable it’s functionality pleasantly surprised me. Few people typically come back to things that are scrapped, so it was a refreshing change of pace, especially since this one of the few apps on the play store that does this. I did notice it works differently with Google apps now, the status bar gets dimmed. Overall, this app performs better than before, and it is really nice to see something get put back in action. Thanks for bringing this back, dev!

Worked perfectly on Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with android 7.1 (lineage OS 14.1). I updated today to android 9.0 (lineage OS 16), and the app now crashes as soon as I try to enable the service in the settings. Update: still doesn’t work with version 6.2 uninstalling/reinstalling doesn’t help. A similar app (black me) does work though, so not an OS issue.

  • Have you tried uninstall, and then install? Or clearing app data.
