It’s good to see Google supporting podcasts more directly. The launch of podcasts in Google Play Music was a great start. It lacked features and never seemed to get any attention. That and the fact that podcasts had to be added through Google meant that many of the podcasts I like to listen to just never got indexed. It looks like this new Google Podcasts app supports more podcasts. However, even this app isn’t without it’s flaws. As others have pointed out, there is no option to auto-download new podcasts. There isn’t an option to boost the volume of a voice (many podcasts aren’t loud enough.) The biggest feature that I’d like to see added for this to get 5 stars is the ability to share a podcast episode. That may come if Google launches a web app for this.
For now, I only miss 2 major features: Being able to choose where to save the podcast files (Internal memory or SD Card), and a timer, to set the player to stop after a certain time. This last one already exists in other apps, and I use this when listening to podcasts right before sleeping. The playback also has some minor flaws, like not having a seamless playback (It gags sometimes…) But other than that, it’s pretty good. Nice start for Google.
I like the idea of having this app from Google but so far it’s not good enough to abandon my PocketCast app. 1. The search isn’t good (I put “earful tower” instead of “the earful tower” and the app couldn’t find it. 3. It limited the episodes. If I start to listen to anew podcast I want to start from #1 episode, cuz it can be a course or an introduction. This app doesn’t allow me to do so . However I liked the clean design, it works just fine and the Google search integration is a cool bonus Perhaps in the future
