HOW TORCHIE WORKS &WHY DOES IT NEED PERMISSION?
Torchie utilizes Android’s Key Event framework to capture and process Volume key presses in your Android phone. This Key Event framework is common for all hardware key presses. It works the same for Volume key or a Power key or character key in hardware keyboard enabled devices (i.e. old Android phones & Blackberry Priv) or any other hardware keys in your device.
This KeyPress framework has nothing to do with software keyboards (normally called Soft-Keyboard which appears/disappears based on your need) which you use for typing. Since the framework is common, Android shows you a common ‘Permission’ dialog. THIS PERMISSION APPLIES TO HARDWARE KEYBOARD ENABLED PHONES ONLY and not for soft-keyboard!
Read more from Android docs here: https://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/KeyEvent.html

It’s impossible for Torchie to see what you type unless you have a hardware keyboard in your phone (Blackberry Priv is the only Android phone which has hardware keyboard now). However TORCHIE DISCARDS ANY KEYPRESS UNLESS IT IS A VOLUME KEY!
