“An Odyssey: Echoes of War” is an interactive retelling of Homer’s “The Odyssey” by Natalia Theodoridou, where your choices control the story. It’s entirely text-based—250,000 words, without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

The war is over—Troy has fallen. After ten long years, you, the crown sovereign of Ithaca, have set your sails for home. But Poseidon, god of the sea, has cursed your journey, and now, many trials stand between you and the loving embrace of your spouse and son: Polyphemus the Cyclops, Scylla and Charybdis, the Sirens, the Land of the Lotus-Eaters…you and your companions will even journey to the land of the dead.

And what about the memories that haunt you: the ghosts of those that you slew on the fields of battle? Do you even want to return to your spouse and the burdens of rulership? What if you find love or peace somewhere along the way? Not all homes look the same. And what songs will the poets sing of you—will they hail you as a hero?…Or a murderer?

Play as a female, male, or non-binary, cis or trans; gay, straight, bi, aro and/or ace; monogamous or polyamorous.

Overall it was okay. To me, it doesn’t seem worth the price (at least in CAD). Seemed on the shorter side and while there was some replay value, I didn’t feel the desire to replay it much, I.e. it didn’t hook me in with many of the other story thread possibilities. Seems very steeped in the original myths, and while that’s cool, it makes it seem a bit railroaded and for those who know the myths, they can already anticipate almost all the next events.

A good story, it had the the atmosphere of Illiad without getting too heavy. Could have been more romance options, I know that that is not the purpouse of a cog, it’s just my personal preference. Replayability is sufficient for one distinctly different gameplay, second and third time won’t differ that much, and thus I feel that the game in whole could have been about 20% longer, for the price.

I really quite enjoyed this game! The ending I got was fairly sad but I’m a sucker for sad endings so this is definitely not a negative for me. I can’t say about replayability yet, though there are different endings so I will try more. It is in the shorter side, where I feel like perhaps the price doesn’t quite satisfy this but still, overall great story.

I really enjoyed the story. However I wish there is some kinds of guide or something because I need to know how to get a good happy ending. I replayed for hours in hope of a happy ending but all I got were bad and kinda unsatisfying ones.

It’s okay. If you’ve ever read the Odyssey or have a familiarity with any Greek legend, it comes of pretty predictable. This is fine, as it’s using that as a backdrop to set up the world. This is a double edge sword though, as if your not familiar with these legends, you may be lost with who certain characters are and what exactly is going on in the world. All in all, it’s okay. Replay value is non existant for me

Its great game. I like the simple and to the point narrative. But I think the lack of my character and his God father interaction was one of the reason I gave 4 stars. Sadly, the idea of my character can have a one of Olympic’s God as a father was enough for driving me crazy. But the low interaction disappointed me.

While I rather enjoyed the writing style I felt that the over use of modern morality and mentality let so much of what the Odyssey was slip through the cracks.
