Empyrean – Save your city and the iron jungle beneath it

[Game] Empyrean

Empyrean  Overthrow your father’s regime with his own secret experimental fighter plane!

Dogfight dieselpunk aeros to save your city and the iron jungle beneath it.

“Empyrean” is an interactive “flying ace” novel by Kyle Marquis where your choices control the story. It’s entirely text-based–325,000 words, without graphics or sound effects–and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Far below the city of Actorius lies the mysterious world of the Deep Tech–creatures and plants both living and mechanical, and powered by unknown forces. Your father harvests the tech to create experimental airships, and the Revolution that fights his every move races to do the same. Your father’s aero, the Empyrean, is governed by Deep Tech dynamics not even he understands.

Only you can fly the Empyrean, match wits against ruthless oligarchs and devious spies, and take to the sky to fight your city’s enemies. But who is the enemy? The Revolution, or the government they say is corrupt? Foreign invaders, or the Deep Tech itself?

In a world of gleaming towers and downtrodden laborers, streaking aeros and deadly rooftop duels, when you risk it all, the sky’s the limit!

Fly the Empyrean, the greatest aircraft ever designed
Play as a man, a woman, or nonbinary; romance men or women.
Explore the Deep Tech, a savage mechanical ecosystem below your city.
Conceal your true identity from your family and the secret police.
Befriend Wesh, a denizen of the Deep Tech who is both human and machine
Cross swords in top secret research facilities, elegant cafés, and even atop airplanes in flight!
Use the Deep Tech and your political authority to improve and protect your city
Side with the revolution, the government, foreign powers, or the Deep Tech itself!

Empyrean user reviews :

Excellent story, well developed characters. Outcomes respond to attribute profiles, good opportunities to develop traits throughout the course of the game, with choices that clearly correspond to one or another trait(s) and also make sense within context. Would love to see more from this author. I would definitely pay commensurately more for a longer version. Only thing i would change is to offer option of having attribute changes noted after each change, like in some other CoGs.

I highly recommend this game. The story is very interesting and the author writing skill is high. While choice changes the story properly, and the endings are plenty.

ABSOLUTELY great, UNTIL the ending! The ending (for me at least) was terrible. I succeeded in everything I tried during the game. But at the end I just crashed and died! Oh, but Wesh said I was a great person, so that makes up for it, right? Lol. Just seems like choices don’t match up with the correct skill, or worse, skills don’t matter that much. Would be a 5 star if this game had even a bad ending. This ending was like worst EVER!

Okay, I just wanna say…That we NEED more great, oustanding, detailed games with the general, overall theme of the ‘ace pilot’ (one of my favorite military-related tropes, honestly) and warfare stories, like this one…Maybe one in set in a Voltron:Legendary Defender or Gundam-series-esque type of a setting? Just a suggestion, of course

Amazing. Characters are really loveable, even the villains. Writing style is immersive and the fighting scenes are stunningly intense. Romance is excellent too, with great dynamics that build on the story. Overall a great game.

It’s a really well written game, with memorable dialogue, action, and characters. But it is HARD. As someone who has been playing these games for close to 7 years now, this is the most confused and challenged I’ve ever been playing a CoG game. Still, I need to commend the writer on a job well done. 4.5 stars.

Perhaps the latest update has helped, but this simply is one of the best from CoG. An amazing diesel-punk fantasy interactive fiction that revolves around politics and wars. Dark and gritty, but amazing nonetheless.

I actually purchased this book. The author built a unique world with a Steampunk feel: with Combines [the ruling class], the Resistance and Deeptech [think underground ancient technology].The Empyrean is a flying machine called an Aero built using the Deeptech. This story has dog fights, rival airmen and competing factions. The ending is abrupt and could have had more detail about what happens afterwards. The stats work well but they are not intuitive. Use the show stats to assist decision making.

This game is amazing. Great writing, impactful choices with branching paths and excellent prose and characters.

I’ve gone through quite a few COG’s, even bought a few COG games I disliked only to see if I could grow to like them. So trust me when I say this may very well be the best COG out there. I encourage anyone and everyone to give it a solid good try, you won’t regret it.

Empyrean is a really addicting app to play through. Really love the concept and characters. The choices are numerous and always make me replay out of curiousity of the consequences associated with the other choices. I agree with the review below, I’d love to play a prequel or a sequel. It’s just that good.

Easily one of this developer’s best works. The setting is great for fans of dieselpunk, and the characters are quite interesting. The story, while not that original, has good pacing and keep you hooked in. Overall, well worth the price. A little request: it would be good to have a feature where you can see what stats each choice you make in the game will impact after finishing the game at least once.
