HouseBook – Keep track of all of the inventory

[App] HouseBook – Home Inventory

HouseBook  Use HouseBook to keep track of all of the inventory in your house or business.

Simply input your stuff, take pictures, and HouseBook will remember exactly where they are, what they look like, as well as any other attributes you add. HouseBook stores data on the cloud, so even if your phone is destroyed, your inventory will be available. Your inventory is easily searchable through the app or through the Google Assistant(in select countries/languages). You can share your inventory with housemates and they can add items too. You can even let others view your inventory just by sharing a link! HouseBook is available on Android, iOS, and the Web at housebook.io.

Some reasons to use HouseBook:

To keep a log of your stuff for insurance purposes.
You run an AirBnB and want to share your house with tenants on a more granular level (i.e. A tenant might not know if the property has pots and pans in the cabinets. HouseBook can tell them.).
You run a business and want to share your inventory with your clients. i.e. Somebody that runs a gym might want to share the gym equipment on social media so people can see the exact equipment that is in the gym.
You are a landlord and want to keep a “Before” of your property.
You are always forgetting where things are.
You have a smart home and want to be able to say “Hey Google, ask House Book to find my Umbrella” and have it reply “Your Umbrella is in the top shelf of the entryway closet.”.
To help friends/relatives with Dementia find their stuff.
A Babysitter is coming over and you want them to know where things are at your house.
Etc.

Remember that HouseBook is for things that have a relatively permanent home. It is not intended to be used for items that tend to move around like your phone, wallet, or keys.

Awesome app so far! It’s the only app I have found that can create containers and subcontainers. It’s surprising how such a simple concept is missed by other app developers. One suggestion: would it be possible to include functionality to select multiple items. It will make it easier to move more than 1 item instead of having to click move multiple times. It would make the app even more awesome!

I currently use this app for a specific use, which is to search through my inventory of cables when I need one. As such, I can quickly see if I have the one I need and where it is. Unfortunately, there’s a dealbreaker limitation to my use which is that when moving an item that has a quantity over 1 to another container, you can’t decide to apply the action to a part of that quantity. I could always copy/duplicate the item but it isn’t a logical way to do.

I like this app. It seems to be intuitive & well-organized. However, as someone trying to take an inventory of an entire house full of stuff… I’d appreciate a few additional features, like duplicating containers (with or without their contents), importing lists from another file format (like csv or xml or txt), templates for rooms (including typical containers & their contents), etc. So far, there’s a lot of typing & clicking around just to get one room set up, g I’d like to see that reduced.

  • Thank you for the feedback Bianca. I will look into seeing if I can make some of these things a bit more efficient!

This is great! Helping me keep track of things in 2 houses, keeping track of borrowed things and where to return them with the tags. I love how easy it is to use, much better and more flexible than another app I tried.

Your reason for not using Google storage is not satisfactory. Some of us don’t care about Google assistant integration or sharing it with others. I already pay for Google drive storage so it would make sense to store everything there. And there is privacy concerns. This data is extremely sensitive. I just don’t feel comfortable giving these details to stranger. Even if you don’t have any intention. Data leak/hacks are possible.

Great tool for categorizing items from my in-laws estate. I document each item in the boxes. I have had to reach out to Cameron once with an issue and it was resolved quickly. Only suggestion would be to be able to make a pdf of each room individually instead of the whole house. The file is so large and I don’t always need a pdf of the entire house, sometimes just need one room.

  • Thank you Jennifer! I will take a look at your suggestion and see if it is feasible!

It’s a great concept, a bit time consuming and I wish they would shrink the photos we take because they seem to slow the app down. I decided to get this one because apparently you can ask your assistant where things are located and she will answer you using the info from this app. I haven’t tried that bit yet.
