Orca Scan user reviews :

It’s perfect for maintaining a list of my books. Just scanning the ISBN add all the necessary information about the Publication, Published Date, Author’s Name, Book Description. It can be sorted alphabetically or as per the latest or earliest time of addition. A pdf or an exel file can also be downloaded which is great for maintaining an ever detailed track of my books.

I was testing this as an inventory solution in a hospital setting and I was unable to get the Android version of the app to correctly decode a UDI barcode to extract the expiration date. Manually entering the barcode did not work on either desktop or Android I went and tested it on my iPad and it worked immediately.

  • Thanks for testing Orca Scan in a hospital setting and sharing your experience. We haven’t built the feature to manually decode barcodes from web application yet, but we’ll definitely add a feature request for this! If you have more insights or questions, we’d love to hear them. Reach out to hello@orcscan.com or chat with us live at orcascan.com

Edit: Devs fixed this issue very fast. Now working like before. Thank you guys! Here is the old review: After being updated, it is now forced to use alphabetical order. Used to be able to add a custom item as a divider then scan continuously for those. Now it just auto-sorts them with no setting to go back to the original sorting method. No obvious way, at least.

  • Thank you for raising this. We’ve just released the fix, should be with you shortly.

This app has been a lifesaver in setting up our inventory, so much so we’re even planning on using it to maintain our inventory! The developers on the support chat are extremely responsive and helpful. I can’t overstate this; they’ve answered all my questions in detail within a few hours. The customization of what the app/scanner displays means our workers can see the data (product names, MFG) but only edit quantities. There’s no reason to use Excel to track inventory while this app is around!

  • Thank you for such as lovely review!

I really like this app. It has by far the best functionality of any free app. I just wish that you didn’t have to pay to be able to send excel data back and forth. I don’t need any other paid feature except that so it’s a little disappointing. I would like to know if there’s a way to slow the barcode scanner, it’s prone to getting an incomplete barcode because the code isn’t even completely in the field of view before it decides it’s going to take the data, it does this about 10% of the time.

  • Hi Ryan, we just released an update that includes some scanner improvements. Please can you update and let us know if it resolves your issue? Also, you can chat with us live at OrcaScan.com where we should be able to help a little faster

Great app, you do need the paid version to really make the most of it, especially if you have large inventory. Unfortunately the whole reason we purchased was for stocktaking ability and that sadly is where it’s really lacking. You can’t scan with rolling counts, so each time you scan the same item you have to manually calculate and update totals. That’s fine if you have a handful, but when you have literally thousands of units that’s not feasible.

  • Thanks for the feedback Dirk, Orca Scan records the history of every barcode scan and groups them together for this reason. You can configure a field to clear itself on scan, that way forcing the user to enter a new value. You can then use the history log to view all information recorded in various locations, from all users. Hope this helps
