The Roku user reviews :

It can take a while to load. By that, I mean you’ll never be able to pull it up in time to skip an intro or pause/rewind an important scene. For some reason, it takes even longer if it’s already connected to the only TV on your network. Then you have to go through the whole home and device selection. It’d be far better if they came up with an official lite app, that didn’t have all of the other nonsense slowing it down

Most times if my remote is lost and my phone has been connected to the TV with in the last 15 minutes I do not have to restart my wifi connection on my phone. But if the app doesn’t connect to the TV I’m Looking for ( I have 3 ) then turning the wifi off and back is almost always a sure fire way to get my phone to see the TV’s. But it’s being extra stupid tonight and my app is up to date.

I freaking love this remote app… I can pull it up on my phone and just select to resume watching any of my last like 10 shows without having to think about which app each show was on. On top of that, I lose the remote 10x more often than I lose my phone. plus I have two roku TVs right next to each other and with this app, I can select which TV I want to control as opposed to the remote that controls both TVs. 10/10 recommend. 5 star reviews from me are NOT easy to get.

Really good. You’re smartphone can now be your remote. Update, 11/13/20: I had an issue with the app but after I reinstalled it, it’s been great. It also has a decent amount of range to. I can literally turn the TV down from another room without being in front of the TV. Update 6/5/24: Is there a different app for watching shows and movies on smartphones? It’s not on the app anymore.

I miss when the remote was the default screen. If you won’t bring that back universally, can you least give us the dang option to choose it?? Also, every update lately makes the app load slower, which makes not having the remote as the default even more frustrating and I end up using it much less. It can take several minutes to load, and to hide the pop-ups on the screen that cover the buttons I need to tap to get to the remote. It’s easier to just use the physical remote most of the time.

App works well. I was having an issue with the sign in, I would type my credentials and it would immediately say they’re wrong(as in, it didn’t even seem like it was pinging the server, just a default message saying “your credentials don’t match”). Turns out, one of the recent app updates changed it to the point you have to clear your data and cache to sign in. In addition to this, I gave it every permission possible. Finally, I was able to sign in. Otherwise, works well as a remote.

  • Thank you, Xavier, for sharing your experience. We’re pleased to know that clearing the cache resolved the issue. If you face this again with future updates, please reach out to us for assistance. Thank you! Roku Customer Advocate

App works sometimes. Whenever I leave my house, the app seems to have an issue with reconnecting back to the TV. So then I have to forget the device and restart my phone just to reconnect. That was working for a while and then I left my house the other day and now it won’t connect whatsoever. It doesn’t even detect the other roku tvs in the home. What’s up with this?

This app is pretty great for when I’ve lost my actual remote. However, the app itself is pretty dang slow. It takes a frustrating amount of time to load up, and to connect to a device. I have the best internet service my internet company provides, so it is not internet speed related. I just wish there could be an update to speed up these things.
