Not like the PC version of Age of Empires at all. It’s mostly a Gacha autobattler with base building and very little in the way of RTS battles. The intro section contains a glimmer of what could have been, but beyond that, it’s disappointing. It’s a really confusing choice to pivot to this type of gameplay. If that’s the sort of thing you’re interested in, though, it works well and the graphics look good.
So slow I uninstalled. The game itself is slower than a dead man crawling. There’s a lot to do, but it takes forever. 2x Battle feels like 0.5x speed. Exploration is slow. Moving is slow. There’s an annoying bouncing arrow tutorial that is way too long. However, sales offers pop up fast as light. If everything else moved as fast as the pop ups appearing, the game would be a lot better. As is, this game looks great, but hits the “meh” spot. So many other faster base builders out there.
Ouch they took a classic and buggered it with excessive animations and additional features. Actual game play consists of clicking on the random things they prompt you to click, and it’s a good thing too, because there are too many different game-within-a-game features. I can’t keep up with it all and don’t understand what’s going on? #boring!! Graphics are nice but I won’t be keeping this one…
For what it is (just another base builder time-gated war game), its not bad, only real complaint is the ui is both too small and takes up half your screen at the same time. If you enjoy that kinda stuff, more power to you. The bait and switch from the intro is pretty rough tho. They give you actual age of empires gameplay, which gets you excited for whats to come, only to snatch it away like 2 minutes later and give you a genre of game that has been overdone for the last decade.
I thought this would play somewhat similar to the PC version they tout this is a rendition of… That is not the case, and it is not an RTS strategy game as I thought it would be… I’m still working through the intro, it’s long and not very informative. It just kind of throws you around and forces you to click specific buttons without much explanation. I have played older games that I think this is modeled after, and if so, I probably won’t continue playing…
I’m a little disappointed. It’s basically the same tired cash grab that every other game in the genre is. Free to play, pay to win. Better stay shielded or lose all your troops. The graphics are great, and the side games are decent. City customization is good but pretty limited. Hero art is great, and the history behind them is fun to read. I will keep playing to see how it plays out.
