Navfree is a completely free navigation app that offers turn-by-turn directions, spoken and on-screen instructions, offline map use and address search and live search via Google and Microsoft Bing, among many other features.

The maps it uses are available for free download from the Navfree Store. The map data is stored on your device so there is no need for a constant data connection while driving. It also allows you to browse maps anytime, anywhere without paying for data connections, which means no costly roaming charges when abroad.

It uses high-quality, open-source map data from OpenStreetMap that has been created and is continually improved by as many as 400,000 users around the world. If you see a problem, you can help to improve the quality of the maps by signing up to www.openstreetmap.org.

Navfree user reviews:

This Sat Nav is good in theory, but I could not find many of the addresses for the destinations I was driving to (although if you know where it is you are driving to, you can scroll the map nd find it, but that is laborious). Similarly for POIs – they just aren’t in the database. The app often crashes, which makes it unusable….. You gets what you pays for, so it’s back to CoPilot for the time being until the address and POI is sorted

Needs pinch zoom, camera warning don’t seem to work. They seem Really slow at developing it must be concentrating on the iphone rubbish.

I took this app for a ride today around the city and it it worked very well. A lot of people are complaining about the interface and features and yes they are lacking but this navigation app is free and it does the job and that’s all I need. Anyone who wants a spectacular UI and feature rich navigation app needs to look somewhere else.
