Windy.app – wind, waves and weather forecast app for surfers, kitesurfers, windsurfers, sailors, fishermen and other wind sports.

FEATURES:

Wind report, forecast and statistics: wind map, accurate wind compass, wind meter, wind gusts and wind directions. It’s very useful for extreme wind sports.

Wind alert: Set up windalert and be aware of wind warning via push-notifications
Weather history (archive) for 2012-2021: view wind data, temperature (day and night) and atmospheric pressure. Weather archive will help you to choose the best month for travel to the spot.
Local forecast from NOAA: temperature in Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin, humidity, wind speed, precipitation (rain and snow). Forecast for 10 days with 3 hours step in metric or imperial units: m/s (mps), mph, km/h, knt (knout), bft (beaufort), m, ft, mm, cm, in, hPa, inHg. NOAA is a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration / National Weather Service (nws).
Wave forecast: ocean or sea conditions, ocean waves and sea swell, fishing forecast
Animated wind tracker: weather radar for sailing, yachting and kiting in light wind
Beautiful weather widget on home screen
Storm and hurricane tracker: a map of tropical cyclones (tropical storms, hurricanes, typhoons) around the globe
Free nautical charts map: view water depth, ocean tides and currents, buoy data
Cloud base/Dewpoint data: necessary weather information for pleasant paragliding
Spots: over 30.000 spots sorted and located by the type and area. Add your spots to favourites.
Spot chats. Got anemometer? Share info about weather conditions and wind direction in the chat from a kite spot.
Community: exchange weather reports on the spot. Want to be a local/spot leader? Email us the name of your spot at windy@windyapp.co and we will create a chat for it.
Weather Stations: online data from nearby online weather stations.

I really haven’t used this app enough to make a true 5 star review… but I just wanted to say that I really like the UI. It is very non intrusive while still having a ton of info. For example, the link that took me to make a review here was at the top of the home screen where I could click it if I wanted, not popping up and interrupting what I’m doing every 2 minutes. Nice job devs. I wish more apps were designed like this. If I remember I’ll come back and make a better review later.

I just found the app and I love it already! I can pull up the area’s skew-t log p with one click. The different models can be compared, even has the Euro model forecast. I can’t wait to learn all the different things I can do with this app. I’m nearly done with my meteorology degree and this has by far the most relevant tools for forecasting of all the free apps!

Great ideas, some major issues remain. HRRR, the most useful short term model refreshes so infrequently in the app it is useless. That model is produced every hour and has a very short forecast depth, so getting updates after 15 or 24h as happens often means the data is stale most of the time. It matters because this model is the one to use for last minute make or break decisions : whether to drive to the spot, which spot to go to etc… Other models are good and the compare screen is great.

I just started using it but I’m already impressed by the user interface. As a former computer programmer, now retired, I fully appreciate a feature rich user interface that is still easy to use and learn! I love the compare graph, which I’ve never seen the like of before. The help screen, which does not shuttle you off to your browser, explains the models. Nice! Customer support is very quick and helpful!
