Mahjong Soul user reviews :

Compared to the browser version, this mobile port of the game is very much the exact same. The UI scaling could be better though, as a lot of the text is tiny on my mobile screen, and hard to see. It’s a good riichi mahjong client for westerners who want to get into the game but don’t know Japanese, as well as much more beginner-friendly and suitable for teaching the game to others, than other clients. The anime girls add character, although you really need to grind a lot to unlock more of them.

Everything is great except that the timer is a bit too fast for some people like me who are slightly slow to react and also, when I click to discard a tile, it doesn’t always respond, so it auto-discards a tile i sometimes want. Other than that it’s great and the only thing lacking is the option for a full 4-Wind Mahjong match (East, South, West and North rounds).

Mahjong Soul is first and foremost a mahjong game before an anime game and a gacha game. Yes, it has the elements of the two latter, but the average free player will be coming to this game for mahjong. And in terms of mahjong, this is a great game. Has both 4 and 3 player variants of Japanese Mahjong, with special modes of mahjong with a twist as a bonus. Tourneys and game rooms are easy to use. Ranked queue time is short. This is a great mahjong game, and that’s what you should expect going in.

I always wanted to learn this game and play it, the tutorial explains the basic rules pretty well, and leaves the advanced stratigies to one’s own discretion, the gameplay is smooth. Characters are pleasant for the eyes as well, voice acting could be better, and it’s pretty scarce, but it’s not a major element.

Best version of riichi mahjong! Really enjoy the game. Just wish there was less of those mobile pay tactics, as you can’t really unlock anything without paying, which is the reason for 4 stars. But the game is free and if you’re looking to enjoy a game of mahjong, you won’t be disappointed.

The game itself is fun, although it’s my first time play mahjong, but the tutorial and guide is helpful. But, the connection is terrible for a board game. The constant lost connection/disconnect is acceptable, but I rarely can recconect again, so I must restart the game, which usually ruining my deck when I joining the game again. And VPN also not helping. You also must pay real money to get a new characters which reducing my willness to keep playing.

Amazing riichi mahjong game, the character designs are fantastic and the different challenges are a great incentive to keep playing! One gripe i have is that you cannot earn jade points earlier than the jade room, unless you spend money, but anything bought is purely cosmetic and doesnt affect gameplay, so im not taking off a star

This game is a great way to start learning how to play mahjong. Almost everything is great; the cute characters, matchmaking, play against AI, and there is almost no reason to spend money. However, the tutorial lacks in many things. First, it only gives a whiteboard explanation and does not include a simulation to show gameplay. Second, it only has short sentences on each rule – and for a game with so many rules – it should be more descriptive. Otherwise, the game is amazing.

Very fun way to learn and improve playing Mahjong with others around the world. Only thing missing is a way to obtain currency to draw without putting in money, though considering it’s cosmetic, not very important. Overall rather fun.
