[Game] Hoigi – Tabletop Strategy
Hoigi is a two-player Tabletop Game played on a nine-by-nine board similar to Shogi.
Unlike the other similar games, Shogi and Chess, Hoigi incorporates an exciting third dimension to the gameplay allowing the players to make more maneuvers and develop new strategies which require a completely new way of thinking.
Hoigi introduces a new mechanic called “tiering”, stacking up to 3 pieces, which provides better mobility options for the units. Tiering produces entities called towers, with a maximum of 3 levels, a tier 1 tower is just a piece on its own, a tier 2 is one piece stacked upon the other and a tier 3 tower are 3 pieces stacked upon each other. Alongside with this mechanic it has a few others that are predominant in Tabletop Games: movement, capture and dropping (placing new pieces).
As in Chess and Shogi, the goal is to trap the King so it cannot escape, but this is preceded by strategic maneuvering of pieces which are meant to control space and strengthen the final attack.
Hoigi is easy to learn and hard to master with many features that are made to help you improve your skills, train your mind by completing our challenges or playing against AI, develop new tactics and compete against other players. It also provides various customisations for board and pieces.
Train your mind and develop new ways of thinking by playing this brand new Tabletop Game!
Disclaimer: This game has been inspired by the fictional Tabletop Game “Gungi” from the manga/anime “Hunter x Hunter” written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, but because the rules are different that makes them two different games.

Hoigi user reviews :
exactly what i was looking for!!! 10/10 WELL DONE recreating Gungi!
- Hello, thank you for the review and sorry for causing the confusion. If you want to play with a friend you both must type the exact same word (including the capital letters) in the “Room name” field and click “Invite Friend”. The same goes for spectate. The quick matches might be harder to find… We will change the UI to make it less confusing.
Overall experience is great! The GUI is well designed and none of the component gives you feel where it lacks. Feel of the game is perfect for what it is meant for and the customization options and pretty good too. Even tho, it’s in early stages and some areas need work but has a great potential to be one of the addictive games for the mindful people. Looking forward to future updates!
Very good game, but a game takes a while to learn, but very fun when you get the hang of it!
- Thank you for the kind words and for reviewing Hoigi – Tabletop Strategy. Upon checking the checkmate challenges it seems that a bug was causing this issue, but it will be fixed in the next update, thanks for letting me know about it. I will consider adding pawn promotion at a point.
Thank you for making this game. I am so happy to see gungi in real life. Thought there are still quite a lot of bugs. Pieces on the board mess up when try to replay, especially when I repeat forward and backward multiplye times. The puzzles challenges sometimes ends in victory even I did not achieve the goal. Cannot press the cross in the victory prompt of challenges. I would love to see this games being further developed, and have board game in real life.
So far I am exceptionally pleased with the dedication in the design of this game and I believe it to be a solid representation of what Gungi would be in the real world. I’ve played tens of thousands of hours in Chess and a game like this excites me to no end because of all the incredible tactical possibilities. I’d love to see it even more refined and become popular!
